Nasdaq,

I have a "full duplex" system with a relatively new Sound Blaster audio card. I use a dial-up connection with a 33.6 kbs modem.

I have used Net2Phone for domestic and International long distance. There is a time delay between parties that is annoying. You essentially need take turns and wait for a reply, otherwise you tend to talk over one another. Family members have also hung up on me because from the time the phone is answered to the time they hear you saying "hello" is too long.

The reception on the receiving end is average or good, according to those I have called. Reception on my end is obscured slightly by static. There is a brief drop out every few seconds which is also annoying.

On weekends I receive 5 cents/min for domestic calls from MCI, so I do not find Net2Phone terribly worth the cost at these times. For international calls (which I make less frequently) I find Net2Phone more of a novelty. I still use my regular phone or e-mail, as the content of the call dictates.

I trust there will be a significant improvement in quality as bandwidth increases. Can't see how cable companies or RBOC's would be happy giving away free bandwith after all the infrastructure improvements they are paying for. I am unsure how they will recoop their investment unless it is somehow linked to the cable or internet content they provide. Hard to believe they would be willing to give up long distance phone service without a fight.

I currently have a small position in IDTC.

Welcome to the thread. The quality is roughly equivalent to a cell phone. If you are using pc to pc or pc to phone, you need a duplex sound card and headphones to avoid echo. The greatest savings are overseas and you can get many more if your questions answered here:

net2phone.com

If you want more. Let me know. I know everything. lol

I have used net2phone direct more than 8 months. My phone bill is reduced from $200 to $40. I call Japan and Taiwan. Mostly, I can't tell the difference from att. Sometimes, usually 6-9pm, the voice is cut off more, butIusually redial again and the voice problem is solved. However, the money I saved, the problem is not the big deal.

I had tried net2phone on the pc. I didn't like it as much. However my computer is not optimied for the purpose. That is why I like net2phone direct better, since I don't have to worry about optiming my computer.
