Doug, RE: Drew Peck

Actually, Mary had Drew pegged right on. There is no other Intel analyst out there that has his knowledge of the guts of the industry. Yet his stock picking ability is probably the worst--almost a contrary indicator.

He has not been negative on Intel for 5 years--not even close. He's even worse. The last time he had Intel at a strong buy was August of '97, right before the stock began an extended slide. He lowered his opinion to neutral very close to the bottom of the trading range.

Regarding Edelstone, he certainly has had this portion of the cycle pegged well; however, in his tenure at Prudential, his record was poor. It is impossible right now to tell whether his most recent accuracy is more an indicator of luck or skill; given the probability (and rarity) of skill being the determining factor for a Wall St. analyst, luck still has the lead.
