I'm sorry for always talking about the General Instrument/BRCM connection, but it again appears to be working in Broadcom's favor. GIC announced that Liberty Media is buying out Forstmann Little's stake in GIC, and will be the largest shareholder with 18% of the outstanding shares. That means, GIC is locked in as the supplier of digital set-top boxes for TCI. And Broadcom is the sole supplier of those chips to GIC. But more than that, when you figure out the entree Liberty brings to General Instrument, the sky's the limit. AT&T, @Home, and TCI are all under the same corporate umbrella now, and if GIC is part of that, Broadcom (as the sole supplier to GIC) may be riding the crest of a huge wave. That news and the general market sentiment that chipmakers (ex. semis) will meet or beat earnings expectations is propelling Broadcom to its best day in several weeks.

Doughboy.
