Analysts Find Road to Dell Is Paved With Good Intentions

SAN FRANCISCO -- I say tomato, you say ... what? Sometimes people just have to agree to disagree.

So it goes with Dell (DELL:Nasdaq), whose stock was higher after a positive report from Credit Suisse First Boston. In a research note published today, analyst Michael Kwatinetz said Dell appears to be tracking "in line with our 38% revenue growth estimate" and that the stock should meet or beat CS First Boston's 15-cent-a-share earnings estimate.

But PaineWebber analyst Don Young said 38% revenue growth would probably be unsatisfactory to Dell, since it would be equal to what the company reported in the fourth quarter, when earnings were seen as a disappointment. Kwatinetz was traveling and unavailable for comment.

While he thinks that Dell is performing "the best in the industry," Young said he is still nervous about the prospects among the PC makers in the upcoming quarters. He said Dell is trading off price and margin for revenue growth, and the response from competitors like IBM (IBM:NYSE) and Compaq (CPQ:NYSE) will determine what happens in the industry in the coming quarters. Young expects to see revenue growth of 40% for Dell in its fiscal first quarter.

Dell is expected to report earnings of 16 cents a share for its quarter ending this month, according to First Call. The stock was up 1 7/16, or 3.5%, at 42 5/8.

edamo,
Hi!!!

RE: ....i think this is what is missing today in the world of the "more educated and less experienced"

Boy is that an understatement...one of the first things that attracted me to Michael Dell was the fact that he took PC's to college...He had desire and a vision..Anything can be made a success if you have the patience and the desire....His father ...from what I gather was against what his dream was..From what I gather....The tenth anniversary of DELL this past Fall was an exciting event....Especially when Michael called his dad up on the stage and asked him if he remembered when they used to argue over what he was planning on doing...Someone wrote and told me Michael mentioned that he has told his father he wanted to be like IBM and that today we are better than IBM...yep, education in the class room ain't the only way to success...Visions and determined efforts are a big part of education that no one can judge except the individual making them.....The perception that many of us have not realized our worth unless we have graduated from an Ivy League school...A total misconception that many educators keep pushing unwanting kids into every day... :o)

Best, Kemble

I couldn't agree more. You are full of wisdom and real asset to this thread. I admire your commitment to DELL.
