Prove to me ... life ... should be kept in the face of ... overpopulation.

The will to survive is a central part of evolution. It's a little abstract to call it will because it's a basic part of the gene pool and not a concious thought. Why is it there? Because those organisms that don't develop strategies to survive, don't survive. Their genes are not passed on. Survival mechanisms work at the gene level and can lead to the death of an individual if it means that relatives are more likely to survive. It can also work at the meme level if it means that ideas are more likely to survive.

There are many trends on our planet that are detrimental to the future of me, my family, you, and the rest of humanity. Overpopulation is at the heart of many of them. Our history on this planet is short and overpopulation will eventually take care of itself. My personal hoped for solution is colonization of Mars and city sized space stations, but as I maintain, the future is unpredictable.
