Localized Cisco advertising would be consistent with the location of Cisco's activities. I believe this institutional advertising is aimed at creating acceptance of the company among prospective employees rather than brand acceptance among customers. I routinely ask my senior students in business to identify companies before we start our strategy casework. Everyone has heard of, used products by, and knows the investment quality of Microsoft, Intel, and Dell, --- in many classes -- even full of IS majors -- no one has heard of Cisco. We typically do a case or two on each of the four horsemen and 20 or more other companies, and Cisco nearly always emerges as the popular choice for the most preferred company in the world. Many of the best students try for jobs at Cisco.
