Ali Don't refer pls to my wife as that 'poor woman' or she will get ideas and expect me to do too much. I like your explanation for the problem. Actually we were quite lucky as the clasp had worn badly and the diamond could have fallen out at any time. The gold from the two rings has made a nice sized wedding band and the 'poor woman' got a new setting for the diamond.
My own wedding ring I didn't wear because it had rather sharp edges. So I had a new ring made from it and a pair of gold cufflinks, who wears them anymore, that I inherited from an uncle. So I've got a good sized ring that any woman can see from a mile away. If they don't see it on my 32 years of marriage face.

Ali : It seems everyone missed the joke.

I was implying that the "rough object" Stephen's wife had been rubbing had something to do with Stephen, himself.

(Sorry, I can't be more explicit on a "gold" thread)
