I am relieved that Dan has those old man tie up shoes for his serious business meetings. Someone has to maintain standards. I discussed the issue with Chris, who pointed out that tassled loafers with Armani-type suits was the Yuppie uniform not so long ago, but he doesn't ride the Metro anymore, so he can't say for sure.

Lawyers are a strange breed, indeed, but not like engineers. Both are trained to think precisely, linear thought, but engineers know the right way to do things, and lawyers know a lot of different ways to get what they want. When I am thwarted, I cobble together a Rube Goldberg device to get around the obstruction, instead of conceding defeat. Oddly enough, or maybe you won't think so, the wife of one of the lawyers I share space with says I think like an engineer, the way I break problems down into bits, solve the bits, and put the solutions together.
