IONA has a transaction processing monitor as well.

+ a bridge between CORBA and DCOM called COMet (through a
partnership with Microsoft)!
+ OrbixWeb, a 100% Pure Java ORB! (through a partnership
with Sun)
+ A new subsidiary in England that is involved in e-commerce!
+ Some software that allows legacy applications running on mainframes
to perform ERP with a Web front end!
+ A co-branded IDE! (through a partnership with Symantec)

So, what else?

I load up big time because I know this stock will be back to 30 before July...mark my word.

BEAS has a transaction processing monitor. This is critical for e-commerce. They are adding o-o software (probably from its Java-based WebLogic purchase) and EAI, but I am not sure exactly the nature or amount of o-o software involved. What does IONA bring to the party in e-commerce and Java? Perhaps CORBA is old hat?

CORBA is object-oriented (OO) technology that acts as a bridge between traditional software systems. The vast majority of new and existing database systems are not OO, they're relational and they're equipped with procedural interfaces. Front-ends are increasingly put together using OO tools but they need to interface with the existing back-ends. What IONA needs to support is Sun Microsystem's Enterprise Java Beans which provides a simplifying layer between Java clients and CORBA middle-ware:

Sun Microsystems -- EJB provides protection for IT investments: Wrap and embrace existing infrastructure, application and data stores; Existing middleware solutions are being adapted by the well-established vendors to support the EJB technology via a thin portability layer; Portable across multiple servers and databases; Serve multi-lingual clients - Browsers, Java, ActiveX, or CORBA clients; EJB technology simplifies and enhances CORBA and DCOM.

EJB support from IONA announcement was made a few weeks back:
