When will MSFT make some acquisition in internet and start driving for the #1 spot in this area?

My guess is that we're seeing the effects of the headless division.

Here's a story of the still-unresolved leadership problems there:
seattletimes.com

In fact, there is little about the group that seems set in stone. The
Microsoft Network, the Internet service provider Microsoft
started to compete with America Online, is in the throes of
change. New faces are moving to RedWest, the satellite campus
in Redmond that houses Microsoft's online efforts. Old ones are
   moving away.

Once (and if) DeVaan and Chase settle in as managers of the consumer division and make the inevitable (and business-as-usual) changes there, my guess is that the pace of acquisitions will pick up a bit. But there's bound to be a learning curve since DeVaan has spent his entire career in the rather insular world of Office and Chase has focused on Windows. The poor internet division (under ever-changing names) has gone through some dizzying changes of "vision" in the past few years, so they might also want to make sure the divisional eyes are properly focused there before heading outward on the hunt.
