I'm of two minds on your "fundamental shifts" theorem.

On one hand, I do believe that components of the DM/WM/KM puzzle will increasingly show up from the infrastruture players. This will lead to price erosion and buyer confusion. This isn't happening in earnest, yet, but it will happen to some degree.

On the other hand, I don't believe that what is needed will show up from the commodity vendors quickly enough. How this will play out for the purchasing public I am not sure. Will price rule? Or will requirements rule? I don't have stats on DM / WM / KM implementations that differentiate the biz (today) into what could be served by simple commodity type products and what needs to be served by more capable products and more capable delivery channels.

It seems even today we are often pushing products to the limits in order to deliver what is required. I find it hard to believe that all these needs will just disappear and/or a commodity type product approach will magically be able to fill the void.

Perhaps the high-value DM/KM/WM (and maybe not all of them) market will be a smaller percentage of the whole -- maybe go the way of Mosaix / LU, and become part of a larger vertical business application.

Just thinking with my mouth open so to speak, and not really considering the words coming out.
