Java stored procedures are great. Its a universal language that runs everywhere and throws another proprietary language (pl*sql) or transact sql out the window - BUT, Java stored procedures are not unique to Oracle - Sybase, Informix, IBM and for all I know Microsoft has the same feature. Its just the next incremental step in the evolution of databases. The one interesting area is the IFS - but again it revolves around Oracle's belief that everything including the file system revolves around the database - customers havent bought into this idea and never will. The idea of the dedicated "raw iron" database server is another area where Oracle is on the fringe trying to convert the world to their database centric view - will it work? who knows, but it hasnt yet and that's the point. Oracle is still pushing the database and cant get into new growth areas. You mention Sun - Sun has radically transformed itself from a "workstation" vendor to a Server Vendor, Software supplier (Java, netscape) and Internet Infrastructure provider - for ISP's and emerging Service Providers like Exodus (EXDS).
