tech 2000,

I would suggest that you visit the QCOM thread--one of the best on SI--and get educated.

>>What is the big deal with Quolcomm?

It's an equation for success, t2k:

MSFT DOS/WINDOWS IS TO THE PC
AS
CSCO IOS IS TO THE INTERNET
AS
QUALCOMM CDMA IS TO WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS!

With the capitulation of Ericson, cdma has become the World Standard for wireless. Qualcomm has cdma wrapped in layer upon layer of patents, licenses its use to the phone companies, and even dominates the asics that are used in cellular handsets.

In other words, Qualcomm has a good chance of becoming a Gorilla in the hypergrowth wireless market (which is a nice way of saying a monopoly).

Check it out, t2k. We've discussed it to death on the Gorilla and King thread since Ericson settled their lawsuit with Qualcomm. Imho, this may be a unique opportunity to buy a chunk of a newly born Gorilla.

TEch--also go over to the G&K thread and look at Q posts there. It does seem like it may be a huge deal--if pc's and their offpsring go wireless--and as cellphone use expands--Q's CDMA technology will garner them royalties in every case--
It's worth a serious look

They own CDMA which is the HTML/Java of cell phones. China has recently adopted CDMA as their standard. Ercson has come onboard the QCOM CDMA protocol. These are 2 events that have propelled QCOM in the past week. They own the patents on CDMA.

What is the big deal with Quolcomm [sic]?

t2k, where have you been, ole buddy? Visit the G&K thread. The last 10 days have been dominated by the discussion. They are the new Gorillia of wireless, with their IP in CDMA and their win of a suit with Ericson.

btw: "Qualcom"
