Semiconductor Sales Worldwide Total $10.88 Billion in
February

Industry Is Up in Sales 3.3% From Last Year

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide sales of semiconductors leveled at
$10.88 billion in February, up 3.3% from 1998 February totals, as reported by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

''This month's numbers show signs of continued industry growth that we expect will remain steady throughout the year,'' said
Doug Andrey, SIA Director of Information Systems and Finance.

The Global Sales Report (GSR) showed an increase in most markets from February 1998 to February 1999. While the
Americas sales did not change, the Europe and Japan markets increased slightly by 1.9 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.
The most notable change was the Asia Pacific market with a 10.3 percent increase in sales from last year.

The worldwide monthly sales decreased slightly from January's monthly total of $11.10 billion to February's $10.88 billion.
According to the SIA global forecast, first quarter numbers can be lower than other quarters due to seasonal factors.

Japan was the only market showing an increase compared to last month, gaining by 0.4 percent from January. The US,
European and Asian Pacific markets decreased from January 1999, dropping 1.2 percent, 4 percent, and 3.1 percent
respectively.

The SIA's Global Sales Report (GSR) is a three-month rolling average of sales activity. The GSR is tabulated by the World
Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization, which represents 70 companies. A summary of the Global Sales Report
