Elmer,

AMD is losing money after all their costs (including R&D and capital expenditure) are added in. Without the K6 sales, they would not be able to finance the R&D or fabs.

But you knew that ;^)

They make a profit on each individual chip but incur losses as they "make it up in volume" !
