- But they make it up in volume? In a story in Thursday's New York
Times "Business Day" section on Konka's plans to sell China-made 32-inch direct-view HDTVs in the U.S. this fall for $3,000 (plus decoder), Envisioneering's Richard Doherty is said to have estimated that "It costs the big manufacturers on average about $12,000 for an HDTV -- more than its price...." The story also says that "fewer than 20,000" HDTVs have been sold since August and that Hitachi "is already selling an HDTV set for $2,999."
