ST.PETERSBURG, RUSSIA. The sale of golden ingots to the population was permitted several years ago, but there was no active demand. This was understandable because private banks were not buying them back. The situation changed in January this year. Sberbank was the first to start purchasing gold. The interest in such transactions has grown - the population has bought four times more ingots in the last two months than at the same period last year.
