Brad, There is a lot more going on in the GTL area.
The story on Exxon goes like this: The Exxon's patent on the use of a slurry reactor to convert synthesis gas to F-T liquids is supposedly to have infringed when US DOE rented their Oak Ridge National Lab facility (actually a pilot plant) to Air Products and Shell for experiments. The slurry reactor concept is not new. There is a ton of work done under US DOE contracts during the days of coal conversion to synthetic fuel, using the slurry reactor concept. I can not elaborate beyond this point. Sorry!

As for the catalyst, cobalt etc., Shell acquired the catalyst rights in 1986 or so from Chevron. Since then Shell have got many patents. BP, ARCO and some others have purchased the license to SYNM's technology, supposedly a novel approach. As you all know, the "green" fuel market has a long way to go. An interesting area to watch. Ram
