the 1974 "Watergate" Congress cut off all their ammunition and gasoline supplies, removed American air cover, and left them open to the massive armored attack that Hanoi launched in 1975 once they realized that the US had abandoned South Vietnam.

The political equivalent of pulling the life support systems on a brain-dead patient. How long could anyone expect us to go on resuscitating a government which could not even pretend to govern, or claim any vestige of authority or competence.

We sealed that issue the moment we allowed the totally discredited, inept, and inefficient French to try and restore a colonial system that was dead and rotting. From there on it was inevitable, just took a few hundred thousand dead before the ideologues realized it.

I think we've done this before.
