Seagate Software Certifies StorageTek 9840 With Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagate Software, the leading provider of storage management solutions for Microsoft Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation operating systems, today announced that the StorageTek 9840 has been certified with Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT.

''By certifying the StorageTek 9840 with Seagate Backup Exec, Seagate Software is taking another step in offering our customers enterprise-class storage management solutions,'' said Michael Colemere, vice president of product management and business alliances, Seagate Software, Network and Storage Management Group. ''This is the first of many announcements in which Seagate Software and StorageTek plan to collaborate to deliver powerful storage solutions for the dynamic needs of the enterprise.''

After passing rigorous tests and demonstrating superior/unparalleled performance, the StorageTek 9840 and Seagate Backup Exec have been certified by Seagate Software. The result is a configuration that seamlessly works in a Windows NT environment and will help resolve many of the backup window constraints faced by demanding 24x7 applications.

''Seagate Software has been driving the standards for Windows NT storage management and with their support, we can provide a complete enterprise solution to our joint customers,'' said Jon Benson, director of tape automation, SAN Operations, StorageTek. ''The StorageTek 9840, along with Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT, combines reliability and data integrity for performance-critical applications across the enterprise.''

StorageTek 9840

StorageTek's 9840 tape drive spans the enterprise from MVS to UNIX to Windows NT. The 9840 was engineered to provide a never-before-achieved combination of high performance, fast data access, high capacity and reliability with widely scalable automation. Businesses benefit from quick access to stored information, completing back-up and restore operations in a shorter timeframe, and improved use of access-intensive applications, such as data warehousing, medical imaging, digital media management and scientific computing. Also, customers' storage investments are protected with support of mixed media libraries through concurrent integration of the 9840 with one or more drive types (including DLT and possible future technologies) provided by StorageTek. The average random search completes in 8 seconds. The native 20GB cartridge capacity can be significantly extended by StorageTek's enhanced LZ-1 compression technology (4:1 compression is typical).

Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT

Seagate Software has further enhanced the reliability, performance and ease-of-use of Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT with a range of integrated new features, including Working Set Backup, virus protection, centralized monitoring and extended language support. Working Set Backup protects and backs up just the ''working set'' of data, to reduce downtime and quickly restore files. Built-in virus protection detects and cleans infected files prior to backup, ensuring only clean data is written to media. The monitoring console offers centralized backup monitoring, allowing administrators to monitor their complete enterprise from anywhere on the network. Based on Microsoft's COM architecture, Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT also offers other market-leading features including Advanced Device and Media Management (ADAMM), wizards, performance enhancements and Intelligent Disaster Recovery.

This new version of Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT is immediately available through Seagate Software's global network of TeamExec reseller and distribution partners with an MSRP of $695 (USD) for single server and $1,395 (USD) for multi server. The Autoloader Option carries an MSRP of $595 (USD).
