Bargain boxes.

3dfx, maker of the top-selling cards, recently
announced deals with top-tier computer makers to ship its fastest
card, the Voodoo3 series, in $1,000 systems. Lesser-known
CyberMax is shipping such systems currently; Packard Bell is expected
to be shipping comparable models by mid-May. Although 3dfx won't
disclose the names of top-brand companies using its cards until official
product rollouts in mid-May, it's reasonable to expect that makers on a
par with Gateway, Compaq, and Dell will add some Voodoo to their
bargain boxes.

. . .

The bottom line is that the incredible shrinking price-to-performance
ratio has shrunk again. And it appears that it will continue to do so until
the PC world is ultimately conquered by small Internet devices that
leave brute-force processing to more expensive, for now, servers.

OT - overclocking Celerons - I think that you can get a small speed boost by running it at a 75 mhz bus. However, your PCI slots will then run at higher than spec. Most of the new, fast Celerons are not stable at higher speeds. They're multiplier locked, so the only option is to bump up the bus speed. I'm not planning on overclocking at all.

Sharky Extreme (http://www.sharkyextreme.com) has a good write-up on overclocking Celerons as does Anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com). They also have reviews of the new V3's. Sharky is more negative about the V3 (likes the TNT2 Ultra much more), but the reviews are not all that bad and I recognize that he needs a little hype to get readers. The print mags do the same all the time (check out the covers of most PC and Gaming mags and you'll see what I mean).

Speaking of the print mags - their websites are a great source of reviews for printers, monitors, and such.
