In an authoritative tone, you tell them you are with the (local) phone company, and are testing the lines. Then, you ask them to please place the receiver down, walk across the room, and yell an amusing phrase at the phone. <gg> A classic prank, and they can't hear you bursting out laughing on the other end since they are across the room yelling like an idiot. hohoho
