Yes, but sadly it's to save the $1 on another cable. With 1 IDE HD and 1 IDE CD I think performance is better using both IDE channels one on each. It gets more complicated with more HD drives etc..., especially now that CD's are so speedy!

I like your 'ideal config' definatly a power user machine!
A lot of configuring a machine comes down to how it will be used. I'm sure we could talk lots about this!
