Two points arising from she_x's Alta Vista rumour make good sense. (1) COMPAQ will need a much higher share price if it is going to make an acquistion on behalf of Alta Vista using shares, or if any Alta Vista related deal is to be linked to the value of CPQ's share price. (2) COMPAQ cannot go into an Alta Vista spin-off with its own share price at a depressed level. COMPAQ's BO problem (body odour) needs a lot of work. The Alta Vista spin-off might help it acquire some of the sizzle it badly needs. (Apologies for the mixed metaphors).
