Logic Innovations' DSTS Supports HDTV Demonstrations
System to be Presented at NAB
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1999-Logic Innovations Inc. today announced plans to present the ATSC compliant Data Stream Transport System (DSTS), a more economical high definition television demonstration and test system that an HD D5 VTR and HD encoder combination.

Demonstrations of the DSTS will be held at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas April 19-22.

Logic Innovations' DSTS records, stores and plays back HD transport streams to perform rapid testing and showcasing of ATSC compatible equipment.

The primary advantages of the DSTS are the ability to easily record HDTV content from an encoder or other equipment, continuous looping playback to eliminate rewinding delays, 108 GB of storage to provide two to 12 hours of audio and video, and a direct connection to an ATSC modulator via a SMPTE 310M interface.

The benefits to broadcasters and equipment developers are a more cost effective and efficient system for promoting HDTV equipment and a more reliable shift to the HDTV environment.

''As broadcasters and equipment developers face the challenging transition to HDTV, Logic Innovations is meeting their demands for high quality, HD recording and playback solutions,'' said Frank Creede, president of Logic Innovations. ''Our years of experience in developing digital broadcast equipment and test systems for industry leaders has given us a competitive edge in understanding exactly what developers and broadcasters need to implement new technology.''

Other DSTS features ensure users the highest performance record and playback system for HDTV applications. Its large storage of 18 to 108 GB provides two to 12 hours of playback at 19.39 Mbps. Peak transport rates of the DSTS are 110 Mbps from memory (32-256 Mbytes) and 34 Mbps from disk (8-36 Mbytes). The DSTS supports continuous looping playback operation of a single stream or a series of streams from a selected play list.

The DSTS accommodates a wide variety of other interfaces and applications. In addition to the SMPTE 310M interface for HDTV systems, the DSTS supports direct connections with equipment that is compatible with DHEI, DVB-ASI/SPI and DSS.

The versatility of the DSTS enables other applications including: fast prototyping of systems under development, debugging applications, cost effective production testing, full speed D1 capture and playback, validating compliance with MPEG-2 standards, and supporting ASIC design verification with a variable data rate record and playback.

Founded in 1986, Logic Innovations is headquartered in San Diego, Along with its core products the DSTS and the IPEDG, Logic Innovations develops set-top boxes, cable/satellite headend equipment, plus, customized test systems for digital headend and receiver products.
