Yougang,

Well I'm not sure exactly what stance you are asking me to define. Do I think AMD can afford to sit around and do nothing. No. Do I think they have to run full speed ahead with their eyes closed all the time. No. Do I think AMD's management is a joke.. YES. Do I think AMD could be a serious competitor to Intel (read a profitable one) with different/mature management HELL YES.

AMD's problem isn't technology.. it's management. Management that has doomed them from the get go.

Regards,

Steve

Yougang - "would you consider these shortcomings of AMD as listed above as "no choice, but have to" or as its corporate culture by-produced mistakes?"

BEfore AMD got to the point of "no choice, but have to...", they articulated their strategy of taking Intel head-on, using price (according to its defenders to establish a base).

Did they think Intel would not respond? Perhaps they did, reasoning that Intel would not defend the low end. They were wrong.
