Re: Size of air cargo theft problem

According to a June 1997 issue of American Shipper, there are about $3 billion worth of air cargo stolen every year. The worst US airports are Miami, LA, NY and Newark, NJ.

However, the problem may be even worse in some foreign airports:

"'In South Africa, we've seen complete shipments disappear right off the tarmac, because American crooks had contacted their partners in South Africa and with great detail tell them which cargo to steal,' said Badolato, who is also president of his own security firm, USAfricon."

In other words, a successful O'Hare pilot could be worth a lot of money to cargo forwarders and insurance companies.
