Went to the fist 6 and then got spotty. Had a great time at the first one. Stayed with a friend in Newport Beach who had a friend visiting from Atlanta. Turns out this guy knows one of the owners of Wild Again and we watch the race with the owners. Of course, I had to get a little exacta action with it and got DQ'd into a very nice exacta. The tension was incredible as the stewards kept rerunning the head on that finally DQ'd Tap Shoes again. Those boys bet a ton on the horse (the first supplemental entry in the Classic) and we had a hell of an evening! We all got together at Aqueduct in '85 and I had that one too for a nice day. I'm sure you recall the fiasco with the betting machines. Had to go back the next day to cash, and picked up some loose change on Sunday with my almost 5-year old son. The Gulfstream card was a heartbreaker. A couple of friends hit real big the day before and we blasted-off all night. That was the first day of racing on the new surface at Gulfstream, and if you weren't on the lead you were dead. We all had dollars dancing in our heads as the track bias was about as great as I had ever seen anywhere. Then, of course, we got a downpour just before the BC races and there went that theory. However, I still remember the sprint. I had cashed with Dancing Spree at 3 different distances, and although he certainly wasn't the best sprinter, the race set up perfectly and that race alone was worth the trip. I did get blown away by Pat Day's ride on Easy Goer, who I thought was much the best in the Classic. It hurt even more because a good friend of mine was a big Sunday Silence fan. Belmont in 90 I had Black Tie Affair with the other 2 sprinters that went down boxed in the exacta. Had a decent day, but the filly race cost me as I switched to the filly that went down (can't think of her name, but she was a beauty). Naturally, I didn't have Black Tie Affair the next year at Churchill. I never thought they'd let that horse steal the race. Didn't make it back to Gulfstream. But I also got killed in 93.
