Bonnie, People quote many variations of that, the most effective it seems to be Buy on Rosh Hashanah and sell on Yom Kippur, which are both in the fall with Rosh Hashanah preceding Yom Kippur by a week of so. It worked last fall, buying on Sept 22nd and selling on Sept 29 or 30th, That maxim is discussed in Chris Carolan's spiral calendar book on p 16. It got you out of the market before the plunge into Oct 8th last year and got you out just prior to the crash in 1987. John
