This from 2051orbust on the RB board.

I believe the agreement with Tektronix further fuels the notion that keepered media usage may be closer than ever. Now that Ampex owns Micronet, a lower end raid supplier, and is associated with Tek, an ultra high end supplier, the drive builders may be more inclined to accomodate an Ampex/Tek "request" to build in the keepered feature as there should be a significantly increased volume of these drives to justify the tooling up costs required.

Also, I believe that there are wonderful synergies at work here as Micronet has contacts with lower powered end users who may be ready to move up to Tek's products and Tek may now be able to provide some lower cost solutions for some of its customers smaller applications. As small graphic, video, or printing houses grow larger they may outgrow their Datadocks and grow right into the need for Profiles.

It appears Ampex can now offer a full spectrum of storage solutions from low end to high end.

Several months ago I suggested to a Tektronix technician who was working on our Profile that Tek should acquire Ampex. Who knows whom he talked to upon returning to the office?
