"Twenty-seven percent of young investors, those under 40, have invested in Internet companies, and 38 percent of these investors say they have traded online, compared with 8 percent of all investors who have traded securities on the Internet. These young investors say they expect returns of 30.6 percent in the next 12 months, compared with 14.7 percent for older Internet company shareholders, those 40 or older. Monthly Index findings show that young investors as a group expect returns of 22.2 percent in their portfolios in the next 12 months, compared with 13.3 percent for older investors (the mean for all investors is 15.5 percent). ........

Average investors, those with less than $100,000 in assets, own substantially larger proportions of Internet company stocks than do substantial investors, those with more than $100,000. Average investors report that 28.2 percent of their portfolios are
in Internet company stocks, while substantial investors hold only 10.3 percent of their portfolios in these shares. The proportion of Internet company investments among all investors who have owned shares of these securities is 18.9 percent....."
