Bill, Shoot, Sam Houston Race Park only gets 4,000 customers on Saturday nights. I am still amazed that a horsey town like Houston wouldn't support the ponies any better than we do.

I see folks at the track who not only never buy a Racing Form, but don't even shell out a buck for the program. Must be technicians. <g>

My favorite from Bay Meadows took place a couple of months back. The jockey will go unnamed, but it wasn't Baze. I had an Exacta and a horse I had in the second slot was leading all the way around the track. About half a furlong from the line, the jock pulled back and you could see the horse's head jerk back even in the replay. My longer shot pick for first passed him and I heard outraged cursing among the other simulcast bettors. It was a real crooked race and I got lucky. I quietly cashed my ticket. <g>

And now I know why the old bookies line is, "I'd rather make book on The World Wrestling Federation than on Bay Meadows." <g>
