NETRIX Announces Plans to Integrate iNOW! Voice Over Packet Interoperability Standard
Interoperable IP Telephony Gateways Will Support Emerging Carrier Demand
HERNDON, Va., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- NETRIX Corporation (Nasdaq: today announced that it will integrate support for the iNOW! (interoperability NOW!) Profile into its family of Internet telephony gateways. The iNOW Profile was developed by Lucent, VocalTec and ITXC. The Profile is designed to facilitate interoperability between gateways from different vendors and gatekeepers from different vendors. The Profile is based on H.323V2 and the upcoming H.225.0 Annex G, which will provide inter-gatekeeper communications.
According to Steve Byars, NETRIX's Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, "Service providers, including next- generation telephony providers, CLECs, ISPs, and ITSPs, are looking for ways to differentiate their services beyond offering units of bandwidth or transport. Interoperability initiatives such as iNOW! will enable competitive service providers to build infrastructures based on media gateways like NETRIX's to provision next generation services. Those services, based on a mixture of voice, fax and data, will be able to interoperate with next generation central office equipment."
Byars continued, "Support of the iNOW! Profile is the logical next step for NETRIX, building on our long-standing commitment to high quality voice over packet solutions using low-bit-rate A-CELP. We are pleased that G.729a has been chosen as a baseline codec; it provides low delay, bandwidth efficiency, and high quality. We are currently scheduling certification testing of our Network Exchange 2200 and 2500 product lines in Q3."
Other vendors supporting the iNOW interoperability initiative include Alcatel, Analogic, Ascend, AudioCodes, Cisco, Clarent, Dialogic, Ericsson, Interline, ITXC, Linkon, Lucent, Mier Communications, Natural MicroSystems, NetSpeak, OzEmail, QuesCom, Siemens, Tundo and VocalTec.
