This was in reaction to a release. You are saying that the release described a polishing up of a previous agreement. What about this fellows thoughts? It can't harm to make an announcement, it's publicity.

"polishing up [our] previous VAR agreement" with TEK...

i wonder.
i wonder whether the following excerpt doesn't suggest the TEK/AXC revised relationship to be a bit more, especially when read in conjunction with TEK's recent press releases...see text below for
a lengthy NAB release.

<<... In response to the growing trend toward facility automation, the companies will jointly offer mid- to high-end broadcasters and video customers an expandable DST(R) digital video archive from Ampex that is fully compatible with the new network-attached storage architecture from Tektronix.

The agreement between Ampex Data Systems and Tektronix involves a combined effort to work with facilities transitioning to digital playback that need digital archives for storage of commercial spots, news archival material, and short and long format programming. The combination of the Ampex DST libraries and the Tektronix Profile(R) video server addressed the need for massive, reliable and fast-access digital archives that seamlessly integrate into a network-attached storage architecture.

"Over the past two years Tektronix and Ampex have installed Profile servers with DST libraries in many of our major customers sites with great success," said Brian J. Cabeceiras, director of the video and networking division for Tektronix. "The formalization of this co-marketing agreement now allows new and existing Profile customers to further enhance their system with affordable and proven archiving technology."

Under this new agreement, Ampex and Tektronix will design and implement joint marketing programs, reciprocal sales training and education programs, and product optimization strategies to best present broadcast and video customers with a tested, reliable high-performance solution for their digital archiving requirements.>>

Delivering on the Promise of Digital -- Tektronix Showcases Video Breadth at NAB '99-- Company Demonstrates the Future of Television in Las Vegas, April 19-22, 1999; Las Vegas Convention Center Booth #22914 and Booths #S959 and S7541 at the Sands; Tektronix Press Conference on Monday, April 19th at 5 p.m. in Booth #L22914 --

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 5, 1999 -- Whether it's distributing video over the air, through digital broadcast facilities and across standard data networks, or providing the industry's best video storage, production or measurement products, Tektronix, Inc. [NYSE:TEK] has the digital solution. At last year's NAB, the company rolled out a cost-effective, digital transition strategy through its Digital Media Foundation(TM) (DMF) initiative and Profile® and Grass Valley(TM) products. This year, Tektronix continues its video industry leadership with new products and announcements to enable video professionals to realize the full potential of going digital.

Tektronix products at NAB '99 include new Profile video servers, new Tektronix Grass Valley products and a gateway that can deliver broadcast-quality video over Internet Protocol- and ATM-based networks. In addition, the company will highlight a leading adopter of its DMF initiative and demonstrate its video trunking and broadcast-quality Remote Video Collaboration (RVC) expertise. Tektronix will also showcase new measurement solutions including picture quality monitoring technology and tools for testing MPEG compressed video and HDTV.

"Our products continue to break down price barriers, support more formats than any other supplier in the industry, and provide a new level of networking and reliability for broadcasters making the transition to digital broadcasting," said Tim Thorsteinson, president, Video and Networking Division, Tektronix.

"As broadcasters implement digital services, the quality of that service is key to its success. Tektronix will continue to lead the industry with innovative measurement products that will help broadcasters ensure quality," added Dan Terpack, president, Measurement Business Division, Tektronix.

What to Watch for from Tektronix at NAB '99

At last year's NAB, Tektronix rolled out a cost-effective, digital transition strategy through its Digital Media Foundation initiative. A leading-edge adopter of that approach is KVBC-TV, the Las Vegas-based NBC affiliate. KVBC-TV recently awarded Tektronix a $2.7 million contract to rebuild its facilities around the DMF initiative, making it the first all-digital station in its market. Officials from KVBC will be on hand at NAB '99 to talk about the station's digital transition.

Tektronix also continues to broaden the reach of its Profile line, the world's most successful digital video server in the broadcast industry with more than 14,000 digital channels shipped. Widely regarded as the cornerstone of the digital transition, it is also the industry's most open platform, supporting JPEG, MPEG, DVCPro and soon HDTV formats. Tektronix supports the Profile line with its new, $1 million Profile Applications Developers Lab.

At NAB '99, Tektronix will showcase its Profile Ethernet VideoGateway, an IP network router that enables remote video and audio file transfers over standard, low-cost IP and ATM wide area networks. The company will detail Profile server support for robust, large-scale Fibre Channel networking. Tektronix will unveil pricing and make available for order its Profile PRO Series, a new video server product line targeted at emerging markets and VTR-replacement applications. NAB attendees can also get an early preview of the company's HD Profile server technology, which will be delivered in late 1999, as FCC deadlines for digital broadcasting take effect.

Tektronix Grass Valley, celebrating its 40th year of broadcast-industry leadership and innovation, now has more than $1 billion in equipment at installations worldwide. At NAB '99, Tektronix will announce the Grass Valley 2000 Series modulars product line. Designed to provide flexible input/output operation and allow return loss, these products will address format independence and networking issues critical to customers moving to digital infrastructures. Initial modular products will address issues associated with HDTV and digital-to-analog conversion.

For video test and measurement, Tektronix will move its revolutionary picture quality analyzer a major step forward with a demonstration of networked, real-time picture quality monitoring. By monitoring compression artifacts, this new technology will give broadcasters the information they need from any point in the world via a Web browser to ensure the quality of their service. Additionally, picture quality monitoring, based on Sarnoff Corporation's JNDmetrix(TM) human-vision model, will help broadcasters use bandwidth more efficiently. Tektronix will also demonstrate new generation and monitoring capabilities for MPEG and HDTV.

Tektronix will also unveil the first offering of its enterprise storage strategy at NAB '99 using the ContentShare(TM) platform, a collection of software tools built on standard Internet technologies that give video professionals access to media assets--whether those assets are located across a room or on the other side of the world. By offering agent-based software services through a common interface protocol, the ContentShare platform enables multiple applications and databases to operate as one cohesive system. As a result, users can access any media on any database in any network location.

Tektronix will also demonstrate its video-transport expertise. The company offers the best video quality at every bandwidth, from MPEG1 on a corporate intranet through uncompressed HD over standard ATM networks. In fact, Tektronix will demonstrate its 2.488 Gbps OC-48 SONET/ATM HD Uncompressed High-Definition Video Edge Device, which provides real-time transport of uncompressed HD video across standard ATM data networks.

Tektronix also supports a wide range of video-transport infrastructures, including over-the-air systems, fiber-based terrestrial networks and satellite-delivery systems. Tektronix recently announced a marketing partnership with Larscom Incorporated to extend its broadcast-quality remote video collaboration services to those using standard T1 and E1 lines.

In addition to its Uncompressed High-Definition Video Edge Device, Tektronix will demonstrate its M2 Series of video edge devices. These devices include the M2T Series, a flexible, modular platform for real-time streaming of MPEG video to move media assets cost-effectively. They also include the M2C Series and ConferenceMaker(TM) software, a tandem offering which offers face-to-face quality RVC solutions for a variety of applications, from education and training to telemedicine, government and business applications, and that features powerful end-to-end user control and scheduling tools.

Tektronix is a portfolio of measurement, color printing and video and networking businesses dedicated to applying technology excellence to customer challenges. Tektronix is headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, and has operations in 26 countries outside the United States. Founded in 1946, the company had revenues of $2.1 billion in fiscal 1998.
