D. That is what scares me about folks like nuke...they always want to be "on target"....a pro-active, we just gotta do something attitude. Suppose we just sat back and said "We're mad as he** but we're not gonna fix the world anymore!"?

Try this article for a little clarity.

If I had to choose between Greece and Turkey, it would be a no-brainer to choose Greece. My good friend has been in Turkey/N. Iraq for several years trying to help the Kurds that we supposedly were backing to overthrow Saddam. What a joke! We left them high and dry as we moved on to try somewhere else. When push came to shove and saddam came back to N. Iraq to do a little ethnic cleansing of his own, the CIA snuck out in the middle of the night. Seems they had advance warning of Saddam's move but didn't tell the Americans doing real mercy work. My friend woke up in the morning to see S's men coming up the street wasting Kurds. They spent the next week hiding out in the hills working their way back to Turkey. When they got there, the Turks wouldn't let the Kurd leaders pass through to get asylum and even though Clinton was given a personal plee, he sided with the Turks and the Kurds were sent bck into Iraq. Gee, I woder why they don't "rise up" and overthrow Saddam? They have our "rock solid" support!

D.Long - correct assessment of turmoil between Turkey & Greece - however, in 1973, the Athenai airport was put on alert and a plane load of American GI's and families were held hostage in Turkey for ransom - prisoner exchange and it was quite tenuous for a week. None of this was in the Stars & Stripes nor were press releases issued in the States. No one is nor were allowed to wear any insignia off base to designate they are/were American.

I found that rather difficult, because at the time my brother was alive and fighting in Nam, my other brother was fighting against the war, and I wanted to be proud to be an American. I learned quick - to be proud of being an honest person of character not a label - and read everything I could. Right now all I can say is I am glad to be living in America, but I am not proud of what NATO and the US is doing or what it has been subjected to for the last 7 years.

Do you think people that have never been out of the country, or have never held nor seen a point of view from an "outside" source will be surprised when the cause and effect suddenly hits here. I do believe there will be an effect that could roll in like a sunami.

Needless to say, missles on Cyprus were aimed at each other and at each tiny baltic nation. Now the American Air Force Base is closed. Greece is tremendously socialist, however, that aside, I love the people. Every baltic country is extremely proud of their history and their selves and it is extremely convoluted and rich in blood. Our turn is coming...
