BEIRUT, Lebanon, April 5 (UPI) -- Lebanon's Prime Minister Selim Hoss
says the mass exodus from Kosovo is clear proof of the failure of NATO's
military operations against Yugoslavia.
Hoss expressed ''deep pain for the tragedy'' that resulted in the
exodus of dozens thousands of refugees ''who were thrown by the Kosovo
war out of their land and homes.''
In comments broadcast today, he condemned the Yugoslav regime for
''denying the right of the Kosovo people in self-determination and for
the savagery that are dealing with a safe people who are calling for
their national legitimate rights.''
Hoss said, ''The mass exodus (that) is sweeping Kosovo is clear proof
of the failure (that) resulted from the military operation carried out
by the NATO alliance and its sterile logic.''
He said, ''The conclusion we should draw from this tragic experience
is that there is no alternative to the return to the United Nations in
order to find useful solutions for the causes of the oppressed people by
peaceful, political and diplomatic means.''
There are hundreds of thousands of Kosovar ethnic Albanian refugees
now in Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro. The European Union says it can
take about 100,000 until the crisis is resolved, while the United States
today said it is planning to temporarily relocate a few thousand.
According to the latest figures from the U.N. High Commissioner for
Refugees, there are now 125,000 refugees in Macedonia, 226,000 in
Albania and 33,000 in Montenegro.
