but to answer your questions, i refer you back to my original statement. read it again.

"the axe is the mm or book that is doing the majority share of the business with the stock. i determine the axe, if i don't already know who it is, by the level2 mm window that shows "# of times best" ask and/or bid."

perhaps one's trading style dictates who has the credibility. as a daytrader, i'm looking at who is doing the most business from day to day. maybe a position trader would look at some other mm.

your question about how influential is the axe... i'd say very. but i would choose my words carefully when it comes to guiding the price. whether the axe is guiding or reacting, i can not say. i'm sure it varies. but now we're into trading 102 and i'm probably not the best man to be proffering information. <g>

and maybe we're already too far off topic for some folks.

if so, my apologies. i'll get back on topic... it sure would seem to me that eric b's days are numbered.
