CP,

I agree but I'd like to point out that IMO this runup is not as "tremendous" as some are saying. In fact, this big move came mainly from Monday's breakout of a recent trading range of 160-180, whereas last q it had already quadrupled over the previous 3 months prior to earnings. I think there was alot of pent up cash waiting to see if the pending BCST deal would be well received before investing in YHOO. That plus earnings Wed caused the 40 point spike.

So even though YHOO seems to be acting similar to past pre earnings moves, I don't see as much downside as before. Heck, the stock is only 35 points above it's recent breakout of 180. That's chump change compared to q2 and q4 98.

It's also right around the same price it was before last quarter's report. Kind of an underperformer in the net world - maybe it plays catch-up.

I noticed that the stock just broke thru its all time high today (albeit briefly), generally a bullish sign. I also read that due to the GCTY merger, the insiders won't be able to sell their stock after earnings like they have in the past, which should limit the downside.

Also, now that "everyone" is expecting a replay of prior earnings price movements, I wouldn't be surprised if it is different this time.

Of course, they would still have to beat estimates by a couple pennies. We'll know soon enough.

Long stock and options and nervous as hell.

Chetnam

"I've learned my trading lesson of never going long on a stock directly before earnings are announced. I've been burned doing this more times than not."

Your right about holding thru earnings and before, alot of people going to learn that the hard way today and tommorow and no I'm not short folks, but most stocks sell-off after earning are released.
