At Home brings cable,Internet service to Japan-WSJ

NEW YORK, April 7 (Reuters) - At Home Corp. plans to announce a deal Wednesday to
bring its high-speed cable Internet access service to Japan as part of aggressive attempts to
expand its reach internationally, the Wall Street Journal said Wednesday.

The company will create a separate subsidiary that will be partly owned by Japanese cable operator Jupiter
Telecommunications and one of that company's owners, Sumitomo Corp., the newspaper reported.

Jupiter Telecommunications is a joint venture between Sumitomo and Liberty Media Inc.(NYSE:LMGa - news).

The At Home venture will have exclusive rights to sell the Internet service to five million homes in Japan. Each of the three firms
will contribute tens of millions of dollars to the venture, John O'Farrell, the company's senior vice president in charge of
international operations, told the Wall Street Journal.

The three firms are also discussing with additional cable operators in the country about joining At Home Japan as equity
shareholders and distributors, Farrell told the newspaper.

At Home told the newspaper expansion into Japan was crucial as Japan's Internet use is growing through traditional telephone
dial-up services, and the percentage of households with access to the Internet nearly doubled in the last 12 months to reach 11
percent at the end of March.

The company's stock rose 7-1/16 to 162- Tuesday on Nasdaq.
