Rambus DRAM With an Error in Design Step
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1999/04/07(Wed) 16:35 Korea Times

The most promising next generation memory, rambus dynamic RAM(DRAM) is reported to have born a mistake in designing level.

According to industry official, Intel is known to have found the error the memory misunderstands '1' as '0' due to the shortage of register capacity when it reads the last bit information stored at direct rambus DRAM.

Intel is reported to have sent official requiring letters to the chip makers to ask to solve the error.

With this bug, the commercialization of the chip is expected to be postponed, which is originally scheduled to be marketed around the coming September.

Internal chip makers, such as Samsung Electronics and LG Semicon revealed that the error could be corrected in software and the chip could be released in September.

Question-Does anybody know if the following is a reference to Rambus memory? (In an article on quick-start PCs in Monday's IBD)

"adding instant availability won't add much to the price tag of a PC.
But a different type of memory likely will be required. The memory will probably be a bit more expensive...."

BTW, that is a quote from Michael Murphy.... comments anyone?

Uncle,
with all this "good news" flowing, have you ever considered why we are floundering at $70, 45% off this years high? There are SERIOUS ONGOING PROBLEMS which to date are not yet resolved. What does it help us if Samsung has capacity to build 5kk/m if the design is flawed, or someone else offering to make a PCB if there are still impedance and layout problems??
Don't expect good news tomorrow, do yourself a favor and take $70 right now, as I doubt if you will see it again soon
