Educator, guess whose gonna reap the benefits, its not too late to get the company building all of these systems, from ATHM in the US to ATHM in Japan with Sumitomo and Jupiter.
Under the terms of the agreement, @Home will own a 43 percent stake in the Japanese venture, Jupiter Telecommunications (Japan's No. 1 cable TV company) will hold 36 percent, while financial services giant Sumitomo will claim 21 percent ownership. Sumitomo owns about 40 percent of Jupiter, which is also known as J-COM.
SUMITOMO TO DISTRIBUTE HARMONIC LIGHTWAVES PRODUCTS IN JAPAN

DENVER – June 10, 1998 – Today at the Cable-Tec Expo ‘98, Harmonic Lightwaves, Inc. (Nasdaq: HLIT) announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (SEI) that allows SEI to resell Harmonic's MAXLinkTM line of 1550 nm laser transmitters and optical amplifiers in Japan. Adding Harmonic's 1550 nm products to its own product line allows SEI to better meet Japanese operators' needs. Also as part of this agreement, Harmonic and SEI will collaborate when appropriate in the development of customized products to meet the requirements of the Japanese market and individual customers.

"We believe that Harmonic Lightwaves is an excellent manufacturer of cable TV-related products, such as fiber optic transmission equipment, and we are confident that we can develop a new market by integrating SEI's products with Harmonic's products," said Nobuyuki Nakano, director and general manager, Information and Network Systems Division, SEI.

"Working with an industry leader such as Sumitomo enables us both to provide better service to Japanese cable operators. This also allows us to respond to the recent changes in Japanese cable television regulations that are expected to increase demand for fiber optic transmission equipment," said Kirk Flatow, Harmonic's vice president of International Sales.
We are moving into Japan boys, all of us. HLIT is gonna kick some cable ass.

Benkea and I discussed, in private messages, his arb strategy (which I think will earn him some risk-free money). I told him I felt that he should be long ATHM and XCIT in order to maximize his gain. I think he chose the less risky strategy. At the time, I was only long ATHM. I decided that I should listen to my own advice, so I kept the ATHM stock, and I bought a few May 155 calls when XCIT was at $140, and trading at almost a 10% discount.

I should follow my advice more often. <VBG>
