One can't argue with the substantial increase in MSFT share price, but is it due to management quality or anticompetitive practices? That's what the current litigation is about. A decision against MSFT and in favor of competitors could easily lead to lower profit margins. That, in turn, could lower the price of the shares. Why do institutions like MSFT more than almost any other computer/technology stock? Because it has no debt, which is certainly an important factor. But if you compare the challenges faced by MSFT and QCOM to establish a foothold in their respective markets, you can see that QCOM has probably done a more skillful job in getting its CDMA standard accepted and in creating a demand for CDMA by manufacturers throughout the world.
