Ali,

AMD needs to get their products into the business sector. Compaq seems to be moving in that direction.

Ali Chen - RE: the bulky heat sink with fan is mounted directly on the naked die (I wonder where are all those vocal proponents of reliability...).

Years of work went into this process, including extensive Q&R. Intuitively you may think a thing, but the data may say otherwise.

Re: "I would not under-estimate Intel.
It may be true for "design teams", but as a
company Intel has delivered totally re-layered
P-III in flip-chip package, eliminated half
of solder-on an mount-on components on the
Slot-2 or whatever they call it. These are
serious cost-cutting measures, the P-III
chip is shipped almost naked, the bulky
heat sink with fan is mounted directly
on the naked die (I wonder where are all
those vocal proponents of reliability...).
In addition, the C4 redesign let them
acieve higher speeds within the same
technology - P-III at 600 and 650 must be
around the corner. This will allow them to
continue their rip-off pricing scheme for
a while, and their profits will not drop.
Until AMD will came out with slightly
better, slightly cheaper product(s) in freely
available quantities, AMD business will be
miserable, so will the stock. "

Why Ali, this may be the first and only intelligent post you have ever made!!! I am very pleased to see your progress.
