Technically, the Iranian students' storming of the U.S. embassy in Teheran was an invasion of U.S. sovereign territory, but Khomeni never paid that much attention to official protocol anyway. Also, several times Turkey and Greece each have occupied and unoccupied several uninhabited islands in the Aegean claimed by both NATO members, just to piss each other off. I myself staged a shortlived invasion of a taverna (bar) on the Greek island of Zakynthos, claiming it for the U.S. My territorial ambitions were thwarted by a buxom young lady from Germany who was on holiday in Greece and insisted I accompany her for a midnight dip in the Ionian sea. I suppose that could be classified as NATO intervention.
