You are correct. If we neglect any losses due to evaporation and mind that we don't violate the constant mass equations, and in an ideal system, the second body would contain the exact amount that the first body lost. Same with shares. Since they aren't created, except by shareholder vote or company decree, the buying can only occur if there is a seller. So even if the market makers have an inventory of stock available, if there's buying, that inventory is depleted.

In my mind, Price action is just reflective of demand, if demand is good, then prices can go up, just like any other supply/demand situation. Looks like the mo mo players are coming out for the earnings run-up, otherwise mostly equilibrium conditions prevail where prices consolidate or go sideways.

Looks like the NDX is trying to come back now. Also looks like a big demand out there for TLAB.<vbg>
