Another company that's doing a quick series of deals on competitive DSL is Rhythms Netconnections (http://www.rhythms.net/). It isn't yet public but is in the IPO process now.

For now, there are several public companies doing deals with them, including WCOM, MSFT and QWST. Here's a press release on the recent Qwest deal. QWST is also in a deal with COVD.

Another company in the same business as Covad and Rhythms is NothPoint
(http://www.nothpoint.com).

Here's an web site that covers the issues well: soundingboardmag.com.

Which brings up another sector that benefits from broadband: The IP fiber companies, including QWST and LVLT (and others). These are the folks who are putting thousands of miles of fiber along railroad tracks. It will start coming online this summer when QWST completes their system. LVLT is not far behind. They all count on broadband to create the demand to light up those fibers.

Then there are the wireless data companies. Although it seems a bit early for that technology, there are several companies worth watching. One of them is Craig McCaw's NXLK.
