More or less in response to StockGrade.com's ugly assessment of AAPL I thought we might do a quick review of another thread on AAPL, the "APPLE (AAPL) SHORT ????" thread. It was created on August 10, 1997. It received 16 posts, the last of which was posted on August 4, 1998. It was created largely in response to the rapid run up on news of Microsoft's investment in Apple. In fact the first 9 posts dealt with either this issue or just shorting in general.

Some gems:
Post 10, from John Guild, dated December 14, 1997
"AAPL loooks like dead meat to me. Market share dropping. Asia will kill
Apple sales in that area. Tech stock correcting. Where is the new COE?"

AAPL did LOOK like dead meat at the time. It bottomed a week later at around 13, an excellent buying opportunity for those listening to the AAPL drum beat.

Post 11, from Gary Ku, dated April 4, 1998

"I agree with you to short AAPL at this point. Last quarter's earnings
is really one time event, mainly due to cost cutting. Home computer
businesses are all going down, even CPQ is going down. AAPL's
attemping to recover at this time is really a pipe dream."

The negative philippic of that time is remarkably similar to the one for the sector this past quarter. Hmmm... another excellent buying opportunity? I can't help but wonder if Gary has seen a specialist since then about his myopia.
