I understand lye is used to strip paint, especially oil paint, off wood. This seems to work, although I imagine it really fux up the first layer of wood. i prefer the petroleum products when they can be used.
If you have any Liquid-Plumr or stuff - make a little wad of aluminum foil and toss it into a glass of it. No Smoking though - the gas is hydrogen! I used this exemplar of kitchen chemistry to fill lawn&leaf bags with hydrogen when I was a tyke. Home-rolled Hindenburgettes. Oh, the inanity.
