In the late 1960's, a wonderful book entitled "The Hard Years", authored by a British climber from Wales, was originally published. It dealt with the climber's growth on the local crags in Wales, to his epic ascents of such gems as the Mustagh Tower in the Karakorum Himalya. The book was later republished by Penguin Books in 1975. The author was, and is, something of a role model to me. Not long ago, I received a private message from a member of this board, who told me I had a "cult following" on the Yahoo board. I knew there were those who quoted me there, but never did I consider myself the leader of a "cult"; good Lord, the ramifications stun the mind... What, you ask, is the point of all this? It is the confession of one who is obviously qualified to found a cult, but stupid enough to leave his intellectual spoor for anyone to follow. That is to say: Joe Brown (which is the name of the Welsh climber I spoke of) is actually Jack Morgan. Jack (may his screen name rest in peace) just could not endure the responsibility of leading a cult, so he elected to die a "virtual" death. A moment of silence... Rocketman uncovered the change by reading "Joe Brown's" profile. He was kind enough to alert me to the fact that Jack Morgan's posts appeared on Joe Brown's profile page. I could have, perhaps, rectified the error before many more here caught it, but decided that the slip-up was a sign that Jack/Joe has become irrelevant, if not to the board, then to himself. By the way, all my posts were based on true and first-hand information, but I will admit that I am neither Jack Morgan, nor Joe Brown. But I will always be a reader of this fascinating board. Addendum: If Nicholas Copernicus ever posts on this board, I would advise you not to assume his name is not a "nom de plume". Thanks for everything.
