I'm taking a stab at a value for Manugistics. 3X book value is not much to pay for a company that fills in a big hole in your offerings. I believe that both PeopleSoft (very recently) and ORCL have talked about beefing up front office and supply chain software in '99 with an acquisition. None much better than Manugistics. In January, MANU talked with a buyer, and, IMO, PeopleSoft was the buyer. But PSFT was beaten down to 15, and I suspect MANU refused a 1 for 1 deal (it was trading up to 12 1/2 on the buyout speculation). I think MANU would probably take what it could get today. At least I would hope so.
